Intel reported first-quarter earnings on Thursday that beat Wall Street expectations for earnings per share, but came up light in sales. Intel gave a weak forecast for the current quarter. That forecast compares to analysts' expected earnings per share of 25 cents, on $13.57 billion in sales. In the first quarter, Intel reported a net loss of $400 million, or 9 cents per share, versus a net loss of $2.8 billion, or 66 cents per share, last year. Intel said last month that it had reported a $7 billion operating loss in its foundry in 2023.

The launch of Intel 's latest artificial intelligence chip is expected to benefit three global semiconductor companies, according to Morgan Stanley. The semiconductor giant said the latest chip is twice as power-efficient and can run AI models one-and-a-half times faster than Nvidia's H100 GPU – the flagship product from the current AI chip market leader. In a research note Monday, the Wall Street bank said Taiwanese companies TSMC , Alchip , and Wistron are likely to be the biggest beneficiaries of the demand for Intel's Gaudi chips. In its note, Morgan Stanley reiterated its overweight rating on Alchip and TSMC, considering them long-term winners of AI semiconductor demand. The analysts are overweight on Wistron too, noting that Nvidia's new Blackwell GB200 AI chip will also drive immediate growth for the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer.

Nvidia has an estimated 80% of the AI chip market with its graphics processors, known as GPUs, which have been the high-end chip of choice for AI builders over the past year. Intel says the new Gaudi 3 chip is over twice as power-efficient as and can run AI models one-and-a-half times faster than Nvidia's H100 GPU. Intel on Tuesday unveiled its latest artificial intelligence chip, called Gaudi 3, as chipmakers rush to produce semiconductors that can train and deploy big AI models, such as the one underpinning OpenAI's ChatGPT. AMD is also looking to expand and sell more AI chips for servers. Intel is teaming up with other chip and software giants, including Google , Qualcomm and Arm to build open software that isn't proprietary and could enable software companies to easily switch chip providers.

CNBC's Jim Cramer reviewed Tuesday's market action, saying stocks that saw losses — like Nvidia and Eli Lilly — remain winners but had simply run too much. "The stocks that pulled back today have everything going for them, except that they've already run so much that they've become vulnerable," he said. Cramer used Nvidia , one of his favorite stocks, as an example. He also suggested tax season played a role in deciding Tuesday's winners and losers. "What a terrific time to take some profits of winning stocks to pay for the stocks' gains," Cramer said.

CNN —The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona will finally be finished in 2026, more than 140 years after construction started, officials have confirmed. “The Chapel of the Assumption is expected to be finished in 2025 and the tower of Jesus Christ, in 2026,” the Sagrada Familia said in a statement announcing the publication of its 2023 annual report. When complete, the Sagrada Familia will become the world’s tallest church, overtaking Ulm Minster in Germany. The Sagrada Familia pictured in 1940 Hulton Archive/Getty ImagesWhen Gaudí died in 1926, only an estimated 10%-15% of the project had been built, including one transept, a crypt and some of the apse wall. The construction of the church was carried out illegally for 137 years, until 2019, when a building permit was finally issued by Barcelona’s city council.

Together, this infrastructure duo is helping train and deploy revolutionary AI models. AI is not necessarily a special-built AI box that you plug into the wall and it does your AI. Being able to run your AI applications on general purpose infrastructure is incredibly important because then your cost for additional infrastructure is reduced. For Intel, we spend a lot of time adding AI performance features into our Intel Xeon scalable processors. The future is that you'll have many generative AI models for different types of purposes within your company.

The chipmaker was set to increase its market value by more than $10 billion, if gains hold. Bernstein analyst Stacy Rasgon said Intel's "AI story still seems marginal" and the "datacenter performance continues to suffer from significant headwinds". The company is under heavy pressure in the data center chip market from Nvidia, whose graphic processing units are used for training artificial intelligence models. Sales at Intel's data center business, which also houses its AI chip division, dropped 10%.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 24 (Reuters) - Chip designer Nvidia (NVDA.O) said new U.S. export curbs on the sale of its high-end artificial intelligence chips to China came into effect on Monday as regulators advanced the deadline. The restrictions were supposed to come into play 30 days from Oct. 17 when the Biden administration unveiled measures to stop countries, including China, Iran and Russia, from receiving advanced AI chips designed by Nvidia and others. The restrictions bar exports of Nvidia's modified advanced AI chips A800 and H800 - both of which were created for the Chinese market to comply with previous export rules. The Nvidia A100, H100 and L40S chips are also impacted by the curbs.

The new restrictions will also affect rival chips produced by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.O) and Intel (INTC.O), according to analysts. In its filing, Nvidia said two of its modified advanced AI chips - the A800 and H800 - both of which it created for the Chinese market to comply with previous export rules, would be blocked for sale under the new rules. Nvidia declined to comment beyond the filing. Chips being built by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices that aim to compete with Nvidia will also be impacted. Intel declined to comment on the Gaudi 2 chip and said it was assessing the new rules.

Concrete Daisies? There’s a Fine for That.

Flowerlike concrete appendages rose to the sun, bejeweled with glass, marbles and shards of old pots. Broken tiles were cemented into intricate mosaics called trencadís — the stuff Antoni Gaudí once made famous in Barcelona. But unlike Gaudí, the creator of this construction had no training in architecture, art or engineering. The art world has long kept a place at the table for so-called “outsider art.” Works by painters with no formal training get special auctions at Christie’s. New York has had an art fair devoted to outsider artists since the 1990s, which welcomes art by children, prisoners and a wide variety of others.

OAKLAND, California, March 29 (Reuters) - U.S. chip giant Intel Corp (INTC.O) said on Wednesday its first semiconductor for data center customers focused on power efficiency, Sierra Forest, would be delivered in the first half of next year, as it outlined a chip release schedule after prior delays. Intel still dominates the markets for PC and server processing chips, with a market share greater than 70%, tech research firm IDC has calculated. Intel said the next power-efficient chip, Clearwater Forest, would come to market in 2025. Rivera said that Intel was also working on building the Intel Developer Cloud with 256 Xeon chips and 512 Gaudi chips for artificial intelligence (AI) that would be available for AI developers to train and run new models. She said AI startups Hugging Face and Stable Diffusion were already using Intel chips.
